We do things a bit differently. We’re not faceless and fussy, we’re family and fun. Our people grow with us, because we provide supportive careers with development opportunities that take you wherever you want to go.
It’s not just us and all our 25,000+ colleagues saying Iceland is a great place to work. We’ve been in the top 10 Best Big Companies to Work For on a regular basis for the last 13 years. And we aim to be one of the best for many more.
We’re proud of the awards we’ve won over the years, like Frozen Food Retailer and Online Supermarket of the Year. We’ve also been named the top UK Supermarket for Customer Satisfaction 2 years running. And we dedicate them all to our dedicated, 30,000+ strong “Iceland family.”
We do the right thing for our customers, colleagues, and the planet. We lead positive change in ethical retail like going plastic-free and eliminating palm oil from our own brand products. And supporting charities and helping local communities. Like raising over £34 million for the Iceland Foods Charity Foundation.
We offer you the freedom to shine. To provide our customers with the best experience possible. We respect each other and champion each other’s thoughts and ideas. Be free to bring your true authentic self to work every day.
We listen to our colleagues. Every store has a Talking Shop Rep; a nominated colleague who listens to the team’s great ideas and their challenges. But we don’t just listen, we take action. We always want to know how to make things better. Whether part of an informal chat, our Director’s Listening Groups or our annual Pulse survey. We hear you.
We’re a family-run business, and that family feel extends to all our colleagues. It can be challenging at times. But we all help and support each other. We all champion each other and want all our colleagues to thrive and succeed. We don’t believe in jobs, we believe in great careers.
You can make a real impact here. We’re big enough to support and invest in you, yet small enough for you to make an impact. You’ll see the real difference you make for our colleagues and our customers. Every. Single. Day.
We love new thinking. We love big ideas. We love small ideas. We’re always looking at new ideas and introducing brand-new products, constantly challenging ourselves to be the best. We listen to everyone because you never know where the next great idea will come from. It could be you!

From Front Line colleague to Learning & Development Support Manager
“I began my journey at the age of 16. With the support and guidance from Iceland, I gained the skills and leadership qualities to become a Store Manager at the age of 24. After 7 years working across lots of different stores, I wanted a fresh challenge. I loved training new managers in the area, so when a role came up for a Learning & Development Support Manager, I applied. The opportunities for personal and professional growth here are tremendous, and the support I’ve received along the way has been exceptional. I am grateful for the chance to develop myself and contribute to the company’s success.”
From Christmas temp to Area Manager
“I joined in 2012, fresh out of school and uncertain about my future. I progressed from duty manager to supervisor and completed an NVQ training course in retail management in 2015. I eventually became a Store Manager in 2019. I then jumped at the opportunity of becoming an Area Manager. Nominated for the Stepping Up program in 2022, I underwent intensive training to prepare for future field roles. Without the opportunities I have been given here, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. At Iceland if you want it, you can achieve it, the focus on development and training is massive.”
From IT Helpdesk temp to Head of IT Development for Retail Systems
“My career started in 1997 when I joined as an IT Help Desk Advisor. I’ve now worked within the Iceland business for 26 years and hold the position of Head of IT Development with responsibility for our Retail and Marketing Systems. I have had the opportunity to spend time working within our Retail Operations department – giving depth to my retail knowledge as well as IT. Our business recognises talent and celebrates people that care and deliver value. You will be stretched and challenged but above all else, you will be supported in the journey to achieving your career goals.”
From Part-time Store Assistant to Head of Stores - London
“My Iceland journey began unexpectedly on the football pitch in 1993. They were looking for a player in a store team tournament, so I stepped in. We won the game, and the Store Manager offered me a job! I started as a Frozen Supervisor and progressed through our internal trainee manager programme. I was promoted to Store Manager at 23. My ambition was to become an Area Manager. With the support of mentors in the business, I achieved this goal at 30. Today, I’m Head of Stores for the London Region. If you are determined and driven, Iceland is a great place to build a career.”
From Store Manager to Area Manager
“I joined Iceland in 2002 after working in hospitality for 7 years. I quickly realised that my skills were transferable to a retail environment. I worked as a Store Manager for 16 years working my way up to one of the biggest stores in the company. During this period, I completed numerous training programmes, including the company’s Progression Programme. and quickly progressed to Area Manager. It’s a varied role, where every day something different awaits me but it’s also a rewarding role that I thoroughly enjoy in a company I love working for.”
Apprenticeships give you the opportunity to roll up your sleeves and learn new skills through hands-on work experience under the guidance of an expert trainer. We offer a range of apprenticeships across retail and our Head office ranging from Level 3 all the way up to Level 7. So far, our dedicated external training providers have delivered more than 800 apprentices, and they’re not stopping there!
